Deck the Halls

Hot chocolate. Christmas music. Twinkle lights. What’s not to love? I don’t usually decorate for Christmas before December 1st, but blogger Christmas comes earlier every year so now I have to bring out the decorations a week or so before Thanksgiving and get the party started a little sooner than I normally would. Todd feels a bit Grinchy about Christmas cheer too early, but I put him in charge of the hot chocolate so I think that helped to lift the spirits a bit…
Of course the kitties were on hand to help. And by “help” I mostly mean gnaw on the tree a bit and bat at ornaments. Two years ago I bought a white pre-lit Christmas tree, and even though I grew up with live trees, I really do love how the white looks in our space (and all the lights are evenly spaced every time—a perfectionist’s dream!).Mac has this thing with burrowing under rugs…what a weirdo.Every Pittsburgh girl dreams of a pierogie ornament, am I right?? Todd got this for me from one of those Sky Mall catalogs. I think most people buy them as jokes, but I think it’s SO GOOD!
This diamond ornament was one of the first DIY projects I did as a full time author on ABM two years ago. I pack them really carefully each year because they are one of my favorite ornaments.
Last year was the first time we used a tree skirt and as soon as I laid it down, the cats made it their new nap spot. Looks like this year is no different!Well, that’s one big decoration down but I still have a few more things I’m planning on making to add to the festive cheer. Are you doing any holiday DIY projects that you are excited about??

Love the colors! Two questions. What is a peiorgie?? Ornament? Some yankee thing, obvs. 😉 and how do you keep your cats from batting off ornaments??

I am totally trying that recipe ASAP. Cheese and buttery dough is my love language. My two punks totally hit all of the low ornaments off last year. Maybe now that they’re less kittens they’ll leave it alone like yours! I can always hope right. 😉

This year was the first year that me and my husband “try” to set up the Christmas tree (2nd Christmas as Husband and wife), but I have the same problem…my little cat!!!! we bought a natural tree and poor tree, the kitty took not just the low ornaments but also the leaves and now I have to leave with a half decorated tree…any advice, should this pass with age?…I totally want to try the diamond ornament looks so fancy and gold!!!!…Happy Holidays!

It may just be a kitten phase, but I would get unbreakable ornaments just in case! Maybe a squirt of water when kitty tries to play with them?

I always have a hard time waiting until December 1….sneaky Christmas music listening begins at work well ahead of time. Where did you buy your rug? Is it the same as in Elsie’s dining room?

I painted a snowscape mural for my wall! It’s about 7 feet long and hangs over our couch. I must confess that I’m extremely proud of how well it turned out. I was inspired by that moment in “White Christmas” where the four main characters create the snowscape out of napkins and broken off tree branches; so it’s got a bright blue sky, white hills and little fir trees scattered about… “Snow, snow, snow, snow, snow!”

I love how your Christmas decorations flow well with the style and decor of your space. It definitely compliments your home, unlike traditional decor, which sometimes competes. Definitely feeling a little inspired…thanks!

Hi, Laura! Just wondering where you got your white tree. I’m doing a frantic Google-search (trying to take advantage of post-holiday sales), but they’re not as cute as yours is. Next year will be my first married Christmas, so we’re going all out with the decorations.
    Thanks!

I got mine at Hobby Lobby but I don’t see any trees in the store anymore so you may have to wait until next year!
