It’s Valentine’s Day!

I don’t know if you know it, but Valentine’s Day is one of my favorite days of the year. It’s actually also my middle name (yes, it’s Laura Valentine Gummerman) which is probably mostly why I like it so much. I usually love spending hours putting up lots of streamers and hanging little hearts from the ceiling, but this year has been a bit busier than usual, so I had to think of something a little more time friendly. I can’t tell you what it is since it’s a surprise for Todd (duh!), but I’ll let you know if it turned out well in a few days. In the meantime, here’s a few photos from past St. Valentine’s Days:
Our night is going to be full of sushi (Todd’s request) and lots of cheese/salami/merlot snack times (my request). Hope you are with loved ones today enjoying some sweet treats! VALENTINE OUT!!!

Hooray for Valentine’s Day!

IT’S HERE!! VALENTINE’S DAY!!!

You’re probably sitting there thinking, “Why is this chick so excited about Valentine’s Day? Get over it already. She’s WAY too enthusiastic about it. You’d think it was her middle name or something.”

Guess what? IT IS.

No joke, it’s not a prank. My legal name is LAURA. VALENTINE. GUMMERMAN. Granted, the Valentine part sounded better with my maiden name (thanks for nothing Todd), but it’s still on my driver’s license, all nine letters of it. Now, technically, I’m named after my grandmother’s maiden name, and not the day of love, but I didn’t know that growing up. I always thought it was a special day that was partly just for me. Stupid kid.

Anyways, I still love the day and I always decorate for it because it’s just too much fun not to go all out.

Here’s what I did this year in our new house. I haven’t made a streamer wall before, but I really like how it turned out. Our horizontal chandelier is perfect for hanging things from, so the added hearts were a no-brainer, and I made pink chevron napkins to add another pattern to the table.

I actually have to work late tonight (bummer) so we are going to celebrate tomorrow night instead, but the table’s all set for whatever chocolate covered goodies we decide to indulge in. Hope you are having a lovely candy-filled day as well!

Monkey (Love) Chain

“Monkeys all over the world, join hands, start a love chain, a love chain…” This is what I kept singing to myself over and over while making this post. Catchy tune, right? Anyways, I decided to add some friendly monkeys into my Valentine’s Day decor this year. Monkeys are one of Todd’s favorite mammals (I even took him to meet some personally for his 30th birthday last year) and I thought they would make a perfect garland if I could have them link arms like the old “Barrel of Monkeys” toys that we used to play with when we were kids. Once I made a template, I used two different colors of pink cardstock to make the monkey bodies and I cut out their faces and hearts from the contrasting pink color. A little rubber cement and a few marker doodles later and, BAM- you got a chain of pink monkeys, ready to be linked arm in arm.

What’s cuter than pink monkeys linking arms as a symbol of primate harmony and love? Probably kittens linking arms in love, but let’s give the monkeys some face time too…

Laura Loves

I don’t know about you, but my brain has been zeroed in on one rather obvious color this week- PINK! I keep the “THINK PINK” song from Funny Face running through my head, like a marathon runner blasting their motivational hard rock tunes (which would be AC/DC I assume, what else?) to keep their legs pumping to the finish line. Here are a few of my pink loves that have been floating around my online haunts this week: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.

Happy Sunday!signature
