Red Sweater Dress (and a Teeny-Tiny Meltdown…)

So Todd has been touring in India for the last three weeks and it has been rough! Of course, it’s never fun when he’s away, but when he goes overseas it makes the trips feel so much longer because I can’t just call him up and say hi or even send a text unless he has wifi at that moment. There’s been a lot of days this trip that we didn’t talk at all and just got one or two texts in before the other person went to bed or started their day (the time zones are almost exactly opposite). Of course, I’m always glad when he gets to visit and explore cool places, but at the same time, it’s so hard not to feel jealous when I see and hear about all the amazing sites and experiences he’s having while I’m at home alone taking out the garbage, cleaning the house, and re-litterbox training the cat that’s decided she’d rather just go on the floor next to the box instead of inside it. Perfect.

Confession time: I actually had my first meltdown in a while last night when I was trying to open a jar of spaghetti sauce for dinner. Spaghetti sauce!! I couldn’t get the jar open to save my life and after much shaking and banging, running the lid under hot water several times, I just burst into instant hot tears that welled up so quickly it took me by surprise. I just stood there, holding the jar, shoulders shaking with sobs, while both cats stared at me. I ordered myself to pull it together while I tried one last monster twist that finally opened that damn jar, but I continued to sulk around the house while I cleaned for the rest of the night.

That being said, I will be beyond happy to have Todd home in a matter of hours. I need that sunny face back in the house.

I’ve felt like I’m about to jump out of my skin the last few days in anticipation so I’m really hoping there are no delayed flights or I may have another spaghetti level cry tonight. Wish me luck and on-time arrivals!signature

Buffalo Plaid (& the Cutest Photo Shoot Crasher!)

So, Todd and I went to do a little outfit shoot downtown a few days ago, and when I opened my car door to get out, I saw the friendliest little gray face staring at me. Apparently we had wandering into the territory of the sweetest little outdoor cat I’ve ever met, and not only did he run over to say hello, he let me pick him up and cuddled into my chest right away. He just kept purring as he sat in my arms like we were lifelong friends and didn’t want to be put down. Todd kept trying to convince me we should just take him home with us, but he was so friendly and clean that I wasn’t convinced he didn’t already have a home (and our house is definitely too small for 3 cats anyways). So, Todd and I just took turns holding him and telling him what a handsome boy he was…

I think he approved of my new bunny bag because he kept trying to climb into it! It was so hard to leave this little furball, but I was so glad that we got the chance to meet him and throw a few pets his way. I’ll definitely keep my eyes open from now on whenever we are in that part of town, always hoping to catch another glimpse of our new furry friend.signature

Seeing Red

For some of you, wearing red is no big deal. It’s just another color (or maybe even your favorite color) on the color wheel, no better or worse than blue or green. For me, wearing red is a big fat deal. I never buy or wear red anything. It just doesn’t feel right to me. In fact, I don’t own one single piece of red clothing—well, except for this dress. I’ve had a few friends start to peer pressure me towards red over the past few years by buttering me up and saying how “good it would look on me” or how well it would go with my blonde hair. Until now I’ve resisted. Until now I’ve been strong. But then I saw this dress and for some unknown reason instead of saying, “Hmm, I wonder if that comes in blue…”, I thought, “Yeah. I could do that.” Oh the times, they are a changin’…                         Dress/Forever 21, Bag/c/o Lulu’s, Shoes/Forever 21, Bracelet/Gift

Also, side note, I have to mention that if you are in the market for a new bra, I think I may have a lifesaving tip for you. I have the worst time finding bras, and as such, I have quite the ratty collection of a particular bra that Victoria’s Secret discontinued several years ago (I bought 4 of them before they disappeared because I was terrified they were the last bra I would ever like). The lingerie brand THIRDLOVE recently contacted me and asked if I’d be willing to try one of their bras and I told them sure, but only if they were willing to send several bras and different sizes back and forth with only about a 1% chance of any of them working out. They agreed and sent me a few sizes in their 24/7 memory foam t-shirt bra and the first one I tried on fit perfectly. I was stunned. I felt like Princess Charming that had found her Cinderfella bra prince. Or whatever. I’m going to buy it in black as well because I love it so much and I can totally see a future for us.

Maybe you don’t care about buying bras, but if you also have a tough time finding the perfect fit, you understand it’s a big deal. Just had to let you know about it.

Anyways, I’m curious to see if this red dress ignites a passion for more red in my wardrobe, or if this is a one-time-ordeal. Basically, I enjoyed our first date, but I’m not sure if there will be a second date yet. I’ll have to see if red and I are marriage material, or just better off as casual friends…signature

The Cat’s Me-Outfit

My two main hobbies are clothes and cats, so of course, anything that combines the two will most likely be snatched up the moment my eyes make contact with it in the store. I had seen this amazing cat face bodysuit on the Forever 21 website a few months ago, but thought, “There’s no way I’m buying a bodysuit over the internet.” I mean, it seems like that is one item of clothing that would have to fit just right for you to get away with it, so the chances of it working seemed slim. As fate would have it, the same bodysuit appeared in the store a few weeks later and I was given my chance to make sure it fit before grinning over my new purchase like the Cheshire Cat.

It took a few rounds of dress up to figure out how to wear this particular piece of clothing (it actually wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be), but I think I found a combo that I’m really into. And what would a cat themed outfit be without a few matching accessories? This DIY cat purse that I made a few months ago is purrfect for the occasion and my sunnies even have little cat ear details on top.

Maybe this outfit is a tad overboard, but that’s why I love it. And, I have several other cat accessories that I could have added (but didn’t), so technically I restrained myself. It’s fun to buy a new category of clothing and figure out how you like to style it best, bought anything that was new for you lately?

Summer Florals

So, I’m not usually much of a floral person. Oh, sure, you may find one or two other things in my closet that ascribe to the Flower Power mentality, but there isn’t a whole lot to look at. Every so often though a print will catch my eye and I’ll happily add a bit of bloom to my wardrobe. I actually bought this romper for our Costa Rica trip, but I never got to chance to wear it while we were there (overpacked—big surprise). Thankfully we have had some perfectly cool summer days recently and this guy was just what the weather was calling for.

By the way, if you are looking for some comfortable sandals with a bit of a heel, I love the nude pair I’m wearing here. I’ve been really into the thick heeled sandal ever since I bought these and I think I’ll continue to add to my collection. These summer days are slipping by so quickly! Hope you’re enjoying yours!signature
