DIY Card Challenge: Cupcake Card

In the spirit of (almost) spring cleaning, I went through my paper goods drawers to get down to only the supplies that I really wanted to keep. In doing so, I discovered that I had a ton of blank cards and stationary from over the years stored away like a squirrel with 2,000 pen-pals. Not only did I have way more cards then I will probably every have occasion to use, they also weren’t really styles that I would gravitate to anymore (code words for “they were super uggo”). So I decided that I would get rid of the cards and challenge myself to make creative cards as much as possible.

I love giving handmade cards because they always add a personal touch to whatever you are trying to say. For this card challenge, I needed a thank you note to send to my friend Hillary’s mom. She’s a doll who has sent me old movies and candy from California over the years, and she recently tried three times to deliver chocolate covered almonds from Trader Joe’s to me (they were eaten before they got to me the first two times). The third time was the charm, and I found this cupcake stamp to be the foundation of her “thanks for being oh so sweet” card.

To make a tall and skinny card that would accommodate my stamp, I folded white 8 1/2 x 11 inch card stock paper in half (I’ll have to send it in a bigger envelope than usual) and stamped out my four cupcakes. Stamps are great for cards because you can get a quick outline of what you want and then use your imagination for the color choice and captions to fill in around the stamps.

I think I’ll keep my eye out for some unique stamps from now on- it was a fun challenge to start with the stamp and come up with the concept and wording from there. And by the way, “youze” is totally a legitimate term. Youze can take my word for it.
