Mint Me!

During our Costa Rica trip we decided it would be fun if we had one special “date night” where we all got dressed up a little extra special and had dinner on the beach at sunset. Since the temperature was pretty hot and humid, I decided that this short mint dress with mesh panels would be perfect for the occasion.

My packing philosophy for the trip was focused on items that felt light, summery, and a bit tropical when possible, but I really had the hardest time narrowing down my packing list when it came time to decide. I originally started with packing nine pairs of shoes but decided that might be a bit much. Actually, I had narrowed it down to nine and felt like it was a solid number, but my husband so kindly pointed out that only a crazy psychopath would pack nine pairs of shoes for 7 days, so I had to reevaluate my choices…                                                Dress/MinkPink c/o LuLu*s, Shoes/Aldo

Did you notice this dress has pockets??? Ka-CHING! Dress jackpot. Also, nude summer wedges are everything. Get a crazy tall pair that you are super comfortable in and all the sudden your legs grow three feet taller. Love it.

Ok, ok, I swear monkeys will be in the next post!signature

Jungle Print

So, if you’ve been on my Instagram lately (@gummergal) you’ve probably noticed that Todd and I took a little trip to Costa Rica last week (!!!). We just got back a few days ago so we’re still unpacking and putting the house back together, but I wanted to share a few photos with you while I work on picking out my favorites from the rest of the trip. The weather was definitely hot and humid during the day (hence the curly/frizzy hair) so I was really glad that I brought mostly dresses and shorts to wear. This skirt actually has built in shorts in it (which I think is the most genius idea ever for people who like hemlines the-shorter-the-better) but the icing on the cake for me is the flowery jungle print fabric—perfect for Costa Rica!                       Shoes: Aldo, Skirt: Target, Top: Forever 21, Sunnies: Forever 21

All of the jungle plants just kill me and I want to move them all to my backyard. I’ll share more photos once I get them together, I can’t wait for you to see how beautiful everything was!signature

Camo Tank + Sky High Wedges

Ahhhh, the beginning of summer. It’s warm enough that you can bring out your shorts and tank tops, but not so blistering that you can only wear your hair up and lay on the floor, motionless, in front of a fan. This weather is when the good outfits happen. Today I’m partnering with LuLu*s to bring you one of my favorite go-to summer outfits—muscle tanks and super high wedges. Lately I also love pairing tanks with high waisted shorts. The tank doesn’t even have to be a crop top for the look to work. Just tie the bottom front into a side knot and you’re good to go!                                         Top, Shoes, and Bag c/o Lulu*s, Shorts: BDG

I love the geometric cutout details on the shoulder bag and the fact that it doubles as a clutch is a big bonus feature. Wedges are my favorite summer way to add a whole lotta leg to a look without making the overall feel too dressy—the taller, the better! I can tell this look is going to be a staple again this summer. What’s your signature summer look?

Come On Get Happy

Happiness is warm weather in January. We’ve had a few days this month that were above 60 degrees and they have been such a shot of joy into an otherwise bleak and depressing winter landscape. When the sun is out, all I want to do is head to our neighborhood park with a hot drink in my hand and my guy on my arm. We watch the ducks and geese and anthropomorphize every move and sound that they make and laugh ourselves silly. Happy sunny days call for a happy sweater, so that’s where this little kitted gem comes in…
Hat/Forever 21, Sweater/Forever 21, Jeans/Express, Shoes/Steve Madden, Bag/Posse’

The ironic thing about this sweater is that I was actually pouting for a good hour because I didn’t get to spend as much time outside at the park as I really wanted to. Once I remembered that I had a big DIY project at home that I was dying to start, I cheered right back up again (what a brat). Hope it’s warming up wherever you are!

Moto Jacket and Plaid Jeans

I’m a poser. There I said it. I’m one of those girls that wants to load up on leather motorcycle jackets and studded boots, but I’ll shriek like a banshee when put on any sort of scooter that goes faster than 15 miles an hour. I’m really a big scaredy-cat when it comes to most things that are categorized as bad-ass, but I like how those adventurous sorts choose to dress while going about their risky business.

Jacket/H&M, Jeans/Forever 21, Booties/Gianni Bini

As far as I’m concerned, I’m perfectly happy leaving the actual danger to the professionals while I try to appear like maybe I could have a bike somewhere. If just one person mistakenly thought I was looking online for leather chaps when I was actually reviewing my Roth IRA statements, then I think this jacket has done it’s job.

I’ll see you out there on the road. But I’ll be in a car. With the heater on full blast. And my air bags in place.
